The changing state of water from ice to evaporation is awe-inspiring since in its simplest form.
The night before mix the food colouring with water. Submerge toys, flowers or something else interesting (I used rubber small toys – they do not float and will not be damaged by ice). Leave container to freeze overnight. Next day I asked my two boys to free the treasures hidden inside by hummers.
