Fill half the compartments of ice cube tray with water and add a few drops of food colouring to each. Use only primary colours (yellow, blue and red) to show how all other colours are derived from these three.
Children can mix the colours together with eye dropper in the tray or drip them on to the cotton wool balls to create something more tangible.
